Projects

Brief 1

A lovely project on a tight budget intended as a surprise gift.  It was.

My brief was to transform this very small, awkwardly shaped triangular concrete courtyard into a usable area.  There had to be room for a small table and chairs, a bench for two and lots of climbers to screen all the existing fencing.

By laying the hard landscaping surfaces out on a diagonal we were able to maximise the space and create a greater sense of unity and comfort.

A view from the kitchen window looked out onto a brick wall, and was painted a light stone colour to bring more light into this shady area.  We planted ferns and suitable climbers with a tumble of roses and scented climbers on the south facing boundary.  A mirror hidden behind a trellis at the end of the courtyard added pinpoints of light reflections to further enhance an illusion of space.
